| 9/23/2008 | It’s been a long and lazy drunken summer, but it’s time for PAN Comics to get off the couch and put down the bong and cocktails. That’s right, it is Con time once again. This weekend (Sept 27 & 28th) we will be rocking out at the Baltimore Comic Con which is being held at the Baltimore Convention Center. We’ll be there rubbing elbows with the biggest list of the big swinging dicks in comics that I’ve seen at a Con in a long time. We’ll be pulling out all the stops to get some notice, including trying to stay sober for as long as possible. I’ll be joined by ’A Ninja Named Stan’ artist, Delia Gable, and the lovely Susie Vera, and we’ll be handing out free shit like our lives depended on it. Sadly, this will be the last Con of the year that PAN will be attending because we’re freakin’ out of cash. So if you live in the area, make sure to stop by and if you attend the Con, make sure to come see us in Artist Alley, table 79. We might even give you a nip off of our flasks.
In other PAN comic book news, the pitch for ’Stan’ is finished, and it looks hot! We’re waiting right now as I type this to hear back from a few notable comic book publishers to see who will be putting the book out, keep your things crossed. Also, my politcal thriller book, ’Empire Market’ is moving along steadily thanks to the talented Matt Mackay in Canada.
Sadly, PAN Comics’ two web comics, Angel Ninja vs. Devil Ninja, and Last Best Place, are now no longer being updated every week. The artist for the two comics (and my brother), Steve, is buried alive with work do to the success of his painting and tattooing careers. We are now looking for artists to take over, so if you know someone, send us an email.
See ya at the Con!
Love, | | -Mike W | | | | 5/20/2008 | It’s con time for PAN Comics! We had a ton of fun and got drunk as heckers at the New York Comic Con at the end of April, and now it’s time for Wizard World Philly. That’s right, PAN Comics will be in Artist Alley at table #1911 May 30 - June 1. Wizard World Philly takes place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, so if you live in the area, make sure to come by and see us.
In new comic book news, The W Bros (me and my bro Steve) will be premiering a new web comic called, "Last Best Place," on May 28th at http://lastbestplacecomic.com/. The story is a zombie pandemic tale which focuses on two rustic blue color families from a small mountain town in Montana. The two teenage children of these two families land at ground zero, the airport in Seattle, WA, just as the zombie outbreak is starting.
Because of the addition of this new web comic which will be released bi-weekly on Wednesdays, The W Bros’ other web comic, Angel Ninja vs. Devil Ninja, will be moved to a bi-weekly schedule Wednesdays as well. That way you still get something new every week!
And finally, I’m happy to report that production has begun on my distopian political thriller comic project, Empire Market. Matt MacKay, a talented artist from Canada has been tapped to provide the art work, and we hope to have more for you very soon.
| | -Mike W | | | | 4/2/2008 | Okay, I know it’s been a long time, but not much has happened since December started. And you know, the holidays came along and then I spent the beginning part of the new year writing some new comic stories and working on the ANvDN print collection. Well, the collection is finally ready and now you can buy it! It came out freakin’ bitchin’ and includes not only the first three seasons of ANvDN, but a ton of extras. All in lovely lovely full color. Buy it from The PAN Comics Shop.
Also, PAN Comics will be at the upcoming New York Comic Con which takes place April 18-20. We’ll be in the small press area at table 2450. We’ll be selling stuff and getting drunk and causing trouble in general. I’ll be joined by ’Stan’ artist, Delia Gable, and some friends from other small press comic companies. If you’re in the area, get a freakin’ ticket and stop by and see us. We’ll have a lot of free crap to give away.
| | -Mike W | | | | 11/20/2007 | Here’s a picture of me at the Big Apple Con’s ’The National’ this past weekend here in the NYC. I was joined by A Ninja Named Stan artist, Delia Gable, and we had a damn good time. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to talk to us or buy stuff. For more pictures of the con, check out this week’s Ninja Mail & News column over at http://anvdn.com/!
And speaking of websites, A Ninja Named Stan’s new website is up and it looks damn nice if I do say so myself. Check it out at http://aninjanamedstan.com/!
| | -Mike | | | | 11/4/2007 | Well, once again Ive let the updates on the old PAN Comics website, but its not because Ive been slackin. A lots been going on at PAN and as they say, the proof is in the puddin. Weve got something very nice for you to enjoy (if you havent already) over at the Angel Ninja vs. Devil Ninja website where Season Three was wrapped up just a short time ago. For the past month weve been running one page a week of the comic short A Ninja Named Stan presents: Girls Nite Out! This story is the first preview story for my upcoming comic mini-series A Ninja Named Stan. The art is amazing and is all provided by the talented Delia Gable. Print versions of the story will be available for sale for only a buck at The PAN Comics Shop really soon. So if havent already, check out the online version (which is in full color) at http://anvdn.com and then pick up your own copy in a week or two.
The other big news for now is that were gearing up for the Big Apple Con. Im not sure where well be located exactly in that big mess of craziness, but I do know that the dates are November 16-18 and that its being held at the Penn Plaza Pavilion across from Madison Square Garden in NYC. If you live in the area, check out the website at http://bigapplecon.com/ and then come down and check us out. Ill be there with A Ninja Named Stan artist Delia Gable giving away free stuff and selling books.
Well, the work is piling up so I better get back to it. See you at the con!
| | -Mike | | | | 9/22/2007 | Hey out there... it’s Mike. I’ve been fighting the end part of the summer where all you want to do is sit around and partake in substance abuse and just slack. I’ve been just starting to write a new book based on my experience for five years playing in the band Epagee in Montana. My friend and incredibly talented artist, Delia Gable, has agree to to the art for it, so look for sketches and stuff coming soon.
Sadly, due to extreme personal problems for the artist for my book, Empire Market, all art production on the book has halted. I’m considering getting a new artist, so if you know anybody who rocks at drawing real people and it into political distopia stuff, let me know.
My good news is that next week on the Angel Ninja vs. Devil Ninja website, (which just finished it’s Season Three with the finale this week so check it out if you haven’t already) we will be premiering a new A Ninja Named Stan short story called, ’Girls’ Nite Out.’ It premiers this upcoming Wednesday, Sept. 26th on http://anvdn.com/. Don’t miss it! | | -Mike | | | | 7/29/2007 | Hey there, big news!
A Ninja Named Stan is rocking right along with artist Delia Gable on the back up. The site is up at http://aninjanamedstan.com, so if you haven’t checked it out, you should.
I’m also very pleased to announce that A Ninja Named Stan, has been chosen as one of the ten finalists for the Platinum Studios’ Comic Book Challenge. About a month ago Delia and I submitted the art and synopsis for the comic book to Platinum and it was chosen as one of fifty out of thousands of entries literally from around the globe. In order for A Ninja Named Stan to win the Challenge, we need your help.
We have two weeks to garner as many votes as possible on the AT&T blue room website at http://www.attblueroom.com/hollywood/. Click any of the Comic Book Challenge links and you’ll be able to check me out, along with the competition. You can watch Mike give the A Ninja Named Stan pitch to the judges and check out the art, but the most important thing is the voting! In the middle of the page is a form with the entries, just pick the one that says “Mike Whittenberger” and hit submit. Vote everyday if you can or every hour, but don’t vote more then that. Also, help us out and let everyone you know about it who will vote.
The top three are announced on August 12th and then it goes back to another vote. If we win, Platinum Studios will publish A Ninja Named Stan next year. Do what you can and help us achieve our dream!
| | -Mike | | | | 6/20/2007 |
Alrighty then... as you can see we had a heck load of fun at Wizard World Philly in the Pan Comics crew. I was joined by Delia Gable, artist for A Ninja Named Stan, and Brent Haughey, artist for Johnny Minor: Rock Hero. We had ourselves a little table in Artist Alley and there we sold copies of the PCP #1 anthology comic (buy it here) and bitchin’ T-shirts and handed out tons of tons of free stuff. There was an official raffle for original art pieces and even drunkeness on the convention floor. Oops, maybe I should have left that last part out. Thanks to Wizard, the wonderful city of Philadelphia, our new friend Cindy, and everyone who stopped by table 2109!
Well, drunk or not, we must be doing something right because we our proud to annouce that A Ninja Named Stan has been accepted as one of the first 50 finalists in the Platinum Studios Comic Book Challenge. What does this mean? Well, I get to go to San Diego Comic Con at the end of July and do a little song and dance and maybe with luck, Platinum will publish our cute little book. Think positive thoughts and we’ll keep you updated. If for whatever reason we get into the next round, we’ll be counting on you to give us your votes. Just like American Idol... swoon. If you want a good laugh, check me out when I presented the PAN Comics web comic, The Eds, and see me get ripped apart. Ouch!
On a happy ending note, we are also happy about the launching of A Ninja Named Stan.com BETA version 1.0. Check it out at http://aninjanamedstan.com/. Whew! I better get busy! | | -Mike | | | | 6/4/2007 | Okay, it’s been a while since the last drunken rambling but WHEW has it been busy over at PAN Comics! We are currently gearing up for the Wizard World Philadelphia which takes place June 15th throught the 17th. I will be kicking it in Artist Alley at table 2109A with tons of free stuff and some copies of PAN Comics comics and some bitchin’ t-shirts for sale for CHEAP. I’ll also be joined by Johnny Minor: Rock Hero artist, Brent Haughey, and A Ninja Named Stan artist, D.C. Gable (see below). Make sure to swing by and pick up some good stuff or just say hello!
Another thing keeping PAN Comics busy is all of the comic projects that we have in the works and our first short story comic collection called PAN Comics Presents (or PCP) issue 1 for sale! It collects four short stories written over the past year by myself with art provided by ANvDN artist Steve W and the rest by me. The book sells for only two dollars and collects some great stuff. Don’t miss out on this chance to get a bitchin’ comic for two bucks while supporting a good cause, us! The book is 20 pages with black and white interiors. Get it at the PAN Comics Shop!
Speaking of comic book projects, we just got two new ones off the ground recently. The first which is called Empire Market, is a dystopian sci-fi adventure about two brothers who run an illegal butchery and are dragged into a multi-government plot to start World War Three when one of them meets a mysterious woman in need. The art is done by a wonderful man from Colorado called Sean Stoker. Look for more about this book soon!
You may have read in old ramblings about our search for the right artist for the romantic comedy adventure comic called A Ninja Named Stan, but the search is over! The incredibly talented D.C. Gable will be providing the art work for this book, and look out, this book is gonna be hot! A website will be launched soon and I will give you a little taste of the art right here. Watch for more info coming soon or stop by and see us at Wizard World Philly! | | -Mike | | | | 3/2/2007 | New York Comic Con was a smashing success and Johnny Minor: Rock Hero artist, Brent Haughey, and I handed out over one thousand ANvDN and JM:RH promos to the con fans waiting in the giant lines which ended up wrapping around the Javits Center and beyond. The wind outside was cold and at times we had trouble grabbing the promos because our fingers were so stiff, but we were marketing soldiers and we fought through the tough stuff. Hopefully everyone liked the free comics and we have gained some new PAN fans, but we’ll see. Inside, the con was full blast and we had a great time. We listened to some comic stars, saw Gary Coleman, and I even got a quick picture with Kevin Smith. All in all, New York Comic Con was pretty good, but now we have to get ready for the next one.
PAN Comics will be in artist alley at Wizard World Philadelphia this June 15th - 17th. I’ll post more news on that as we get closer. Whoo hoo, the winter will soon be over!
| | -Mike | | | | 2/22/2007 | Oh yeah! The official website of Johnny Minor: Rock Hero is launched! Special thanks go to Paul at RockwebZ.com. The site looks amazing and best of all, the five page preview of the first issue is available for your enjoyment. Check it out at http://johnnyminor.com! | | -Mike | | | | 2/17/2007 | Alright... another cold month in the state of New York but that’s okay because it’s been another hot month for PAN Comics! Production on Johnny Minor: Rock Hero continues and artist Brent Haughey and I are just about to submit our packet to Image Comics and hopefully get picked up. Brent is almost done wrapping up the cover art, which is coming along bad ass, and then I’ll put that sucker in the mail. The website with a five page preview from the comic and exclusive music tracks from the Johnny Minors will be launched Feb. 22 at http://johnnyminor.com. Don’t miss it!
In other PAN comic news, PAN Comics is currently looking for an artist for PAN’s newest project called, A Ninja Named Stan. It is a 3 issue bizzare romantic comedy mini-series with a touch of adventure which is to be done in black and white. The story deals with two drifting souls who find each other and make life just a little nicer. One is a female police officer and the other a crazy guy who thinks he’s a ninja. Anyone interested in lending their illustration skills to this project should contact Mike at mike@pancomics.com. Only five pages plus a cover are needed to start and payment will be provided in the form of website creation and hosting trade and the equal sharing of creative rights and profit.
Last thing, the New York Comic Con is coming up next weekend and PAN Comics will be there represented by myself, PAN Comics chief editor April Gorenflo, and PAN Comics artist Brent Haughey. We don’t have a booth but we will be doing some hardcore guerilla marketing. Look for us and get your hands on some free Johnny Minor: Rock Hero and Angel Ninja vs. Devil Ninja promotional materials. Anyone who won’t be making it to the con who would like to get their hands on a Johnny Minor: Rock Hero guitar pick and some other nice schwag can simply email me your address and I’ll mail it to you.

PAN Comics is gearing up for the new year with the launch of this new website and a new comic book title.
